class hours.

How to Submit Your Intersession Course Proposal

Complete one form for each Intersession course.

  1. Complete the proposal form.

  2. Send or fax a copy of your proposal to the Intersession office.

  3. Forward original forms and your syllabus to appropriate offices for approvals. Follow up on their progress. Your proposal will be accepted and processed after you have obtained all the necessary approvals.

If you are offering a UNIV course, please make sure you complete the University Course Request Form and attach it to your course proposal. These forms are available in your department or from the Intersession office.

If you are offering a graduate level course (5000 & 6000) forward your proposal to the Graduate Dean after you receive your department chair and college dean signatures.
Is it time to send in your course proposal?
It is imperative that we receive your course proposals on time to assure its listing in the Intersession class schedule.

Be creative in your selection of title and course description. Submit a 3-4 sentence course description that will appear in the Intersession schedule and website to attract students and encourage their participation in your class. Our experience indicates courses with the largest enrollments are those in which the individual instructor has promoted the course to potential students in their current classes. Ask your colleagues to mention your Intersession course(s) in their classes too.

University Policies for Intersession

  • Faculty shall not teach and students shall not earn credit at a rate higher than one semester credit hour per week during the Intersession period.

  • Each credit hour must include 800 minutes of instructional time. Use the “worksheet for class times” as an example. Lecture time is reviewed by the Intersession office prior to printing the schedule. The University requires fifty minutes of instructional time per clock hour. Ten minutes of break time must also be included. These examples do not include holidays. You will need to take this into consideration when calculating the number of class meetings per week.

    SALARIES

    Intersession instructors are paid on an overload basis. Please refer to the "Stipend Table" on Intersession website under "Faculty Information" to figure your stipend based on enrollment. The maximum stipend is $4100. (beginning December 2007)

    On the " COMMIT/CANCEL " date, please contact the Intersession office by email. The Intersession office reserves the right to cancel your course without notice if enrollment falls below 6 students unless previous arrangements have been made. You will be given a choice to teach your course with an uncertain stipend level or immediately cancel your course on this date. You will not be contacted if your enrollment is 10 or above at the time of "COMMIT/CANCEL." Once you "commit" to teach the course, you are required to continue despite any decreases in enrollment. On the beginning of the third day of your individual course, your enrollment will be calculated, and your stipend will be finalized with a maximum of $4100 according to the "Stipend Table" found at www.intersession.ou.edu
